How to optimize your website for Yahoo?

Many years ago Yahoo was the most popular search engine on the web but after but now it seems that Google is the preferred search engine.

But Yahoo is still a major player in the market and it is estimated that Yahoo queries make up 25 % - 28 % of search engines traffic.

Yahoo is more active than Google because there are more pages in yahoo index than Google.

Another difference between Yahoo and Google is that Yahoo is a directory in the first place then it is a search engine, so a website which has the keyword in the category it is listed under, will take more chance in the beginning of the search results.

Google pays more attention to the OFF Page factors like backlinks, listing in web directories, listing in DMOZ while Yahoo concentrates more on the ON Page factors like Keyword density, keyword proximity, meta title, meta description, keywords in URL and the internal linking structure.

Keyword density is how frequently your keyword appear in the paragraph or in the whole page, for Yahoo the more the better but to avoid being banned by Google keep the keyword density at 7%.

Keyword proximity refers to how close your keywords are to the starting of the phrase.

Meta title and meta description are very important when optimizing a website for yahoo, always try to include your keywords in the meta title and avoid using a long title for your page, and the meta description must be related to your title and keywords.

Keywords in URL plays a great role in Yahoo optimization, but note that if your keyword is 'car' for example then 'goodcar' will be good but 'car' only will better.

Number of visitors: for example if your website in at position 5 and your are getting more visitors than a website in the 4th position then your website will take its place at 4th position.

My last advice for you is to have a good unique content in your website, this is the only reason that makes someone adds your website to his favorites and visit it again.
